The food in Amsterdam was delish! So much cheese and pancakes and croissants... all things that are too good but I really shouldn't be consuming for every meal. The first night we were there we went to a restaurant recommended to me and off the beaten path but oh so good called Yam Yam. It was a little Italian joint that had such good pizzas and of course both of us finished a pizza to ourselves. It was so quant and because we got there kinda late when the people started to trickle out we were asked by the staff if it was okay that they smoked inside... clearly a relaxed place.
The next day we started off stopping by a little bakery and getting a coffee and chocolate croissant only to be followed a few hours later by an amazing lunch. The sandwich place that we went to was called Singel 404 and was located right on one of the canals. It was packed inside and waiting for a table took about 20 min but it was so worth it! I had a smoked chicken, avocado, sun-dried tomato, and bre open faced sandwich with a fresh cup of orange and banana juice. Let's just say we didn't talk during lunch.
The last day we were there we had to fit in getting pancakes. We went to Pannenkoekenhuis Upstairs, nestled down a little alley way where you have to climb the steepest stairs, which is quite the feat with a backpack the size of myself, where you then reach your destination of a teeny tiny restaurant consisting of 4 or 5 tables, all occupied. Every other inch in the place is covered with teapots (if there were Earthquakes in Amsterdam this is the location to stay clear of). With a very healthy start to my day I got a half apple, half banana pancake with chocolate, nutella, and cream.
